Mathcad 15 is the latest version of the old Mathcad product family. While this version was loved by a lot of users, it was becoming unsuitable for modern operating systems and hardware. When creating Prime, the software was rewritten from scratch and there are a lot of functionality and computational improvements besides the user-friendly interface. Transitioning the functionality from Mathcad 15 is still an ongoing process, so if Prime is not exactly up to your expectations yet, you can still use Mathcad 15 – it’s still supported and looked after by PTC.
Locked License - The license is installed onto one computer (host) and can only be used on that host.
- Wrong MAC address. The license file is tied to the MAC address of your computer. If they don’t match, the license will not work.
- Wrong version. If the license file is for an older version of the software (e.g. Mathcad 15) and you are trying to license Mathcad Prime, you need to get a new updated license. This is free if you are an active, maintained customer.
- License server down. This can only happen for a floating license hosted on a server machine. If the server is down or not responding, you can try restarting it.
- Mathcad has not been set up to look for a license. You may have installed Mathcad without configuring it to look for a license file. To do this, you need to run the Mathcad License Setup by starting the mclicense.exe application, found in the Mathcad install location.
Home Use licenses are locked licenses, restricted to your use only, and are to be installed on a personal computer not located or used in the workplace. Home Use licenses are not allowed to be used in the workplace by additional users. If you own a Professional license, you are allowed to perform commercial/production work with Home Use licenses on your personal computer.
