Roadmap diagram based on yearly release schedule – this is subject to change.

Candidates for Mathcad Prime 8:

The following are features that are being considered for implementation in Mathcad Prime 8. Please be aware that this is also subject to change.

General features:

o   Redefinition Warnings

o   Partial Differentiator Operator

o   Gradient Operator

o   Workspace, Header, Footer borders

o   Autosave

Converter

o   Optional view created of legacy Mathcad worksheet

o Engine Enhancements

o   Label Handling

o   Transform enhancements

UI/UX Enhancements

o   Close button on each worksheet tab

o   Mouse wheel/pinch-zoom

o   Worksheet save indicator

The plan for the optional view for the legacy converter is to save the legacy Mathcad worksheet in HTML form so you can compare the worksheets. Customers also requested the ability to see if a worksheet was unsaved.

Candidates for Mathcad Prime 9,10,11:

General features:

o   Text Styles/Table of Contents

o   Custom Unit System

o   Sub/Superscripts

o   Scripted Controls

o   Hide left-hand side of evaluation

o   Hide keyword for symbolics calculations

o   Find/Replace all

o   PDE Solve

o   Worksheet Protection

o   Picture Operator

o   Animations

o   Symbolic solve blocks

o   Header/footer content conversion enchantments

o Engine Enhancements

o   Symbolic and Numeric

With each release, PTC will be adding symbolic engine enhancements. This is made possible by the new symbolic engine implemented in Prime 7.0 which is fully under PTC’s control. They have already added some of these requested symbolic features in Mathcad Prime 7.0.

Gap-fill functionality:

While much of the functionality available in Mathcad 15 has already been implemented in Mathcad Prime, here are some examples of top planned gap-fill functionality:

  • Custom Units System

  • Text Styles/Table of Contents

  • Worksheet Protection

  • Sub/Superscripts in Text

  • Scripted Controls

PTC has emphasised that any gap-fill function that was present in Mathcad 15 that is to be implemented in Mathcad Prime, is intended to be enhanced and not just implemented in a like for like form. The order that this functionality is implemented is driven by customer feedback. How to make your voice heard is detailed below.

For custom units systems the plan is to allow users to create multiple custom units systems that can be named by the user. These allow you to mix and match units from different unit conventions.

Another planned feature is the ability to use user-defined text styles which can be re-used and edited.  Anchor points can be added in a worksheet in relation to a region so that a table of contents can be created based both on the text styles and regions present in a document.

In future, you will be able to password protect a worksheet in addition to having more control over what can and cannot be edited within a worksheet by others.

You will also have the ability to add subscripts and superscripts to text in Mathcad Prime which is a functionality currently only available with Maths within the software.

There is some functionality that scripted controls provide that is not covered by combo-box input control so there are plans to implement this extra functionality.

How to give feedback:

PTC have an internal enhancement database that contains all the requested features for Mathcad Prime and how many customers have requested it. It was strongly emphasised in a recent PTC Mathcad webinar that new features being introduced in Mathcad Prime are heavily driven by customer feedback.

· Reach out to Technical Support – If you are supported by a reseller such as us (Root Solutions) we pass feedback on to the Mathcad product team. Some of our customers have taken the time to write detailed documents/reviews of Mathcad and which both us and PTC read in full.

· Community Ideas Site – PTC do monitor this for feedback on the product and this contributes to the collective internal enhancement database. The Community Idea site can be found here.

· Reach out directly to Mathcad Team – During PTC webinars senior members of the Mathcad team will give out their emails and ask for direct feedback. The relevant email contact is given during webinars by PTC that can be found here

For more information on the roadmap, we highly recommend watching the full PTC Webinar titled ‘PTC Mathcad: The Art and Science of Engineering Calculations’ which can be found here
